Characterize more than particle size
Record particle dimensions, shape, concentration and variability, including the largest particles expected in production. Describe whether the pieces are soft, fibrous or easily damaged. The liquid phase also matters: provide its temperature and flow characteristics. A single nominal size cannot describe the complete filling duty.
Inspect the entire passage
Review the pump, valves, connecting pipework, filling head and bag interface for restrictions and handling effects. The smallest relevant passage may be outside the head itself. Confirm how a blockage or lost inlet condition is detected and handled. Product-processing suitability and its validated thermal treatment require a separate upstream assessment.
Use a representative acceptance basis
Test with the agreed particle distribution and package. Record filling behaviour, product condition, net-fill variation and closure integrity under the specified sequence. Include cleaning of retained residues and access to excluded components. The accepted envelope should state the particle and product conditions actually demonstrated.
PRACTICAL ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Can any aseptic bag filler handle particles?
No. The complete product path, filling head and package interface need review for the actual particles and operating conditions.
Does a larger fitment solve all restrictions?
No. Pumps, valves and the head can impose other restrictions. Review every relevant passage and the product-handling sequence.
What belongs in a particulate-product enquiry?
Send particle dimensions, shape, concentration and damage sensitivity, liquid-phase information, package drawings and the required filling target.
