Aseptic IBC Liner & Bulk Bag Filling

An IBC liner turns a rigid intermediate bulk container into a large aseptic package. The liner, fitment, support frame and filling head must be designed as one system.

PACKAGE FIRST

The package defines the cell.

01

The liner is the package; the IBC is the support

An IBC liner is a flexible, pre-sterilised bag supported by a rigid container or frame. The product contacts the liner, while the IBC carries the filled load. Record the liner installation method, the fitment position and the head clearance. The filling head must reach the fitment without stretching the bag or loading the neck. A nominal 1000 L container does not define the working fill: product density, target net mass and ullage do.

02

Head reach and full-load handling

Bulk containers are difficult to move and cannot be treated like a 200 L drum. Confirm the empty-container route, the filling position, the weighing platform and the filled-container discharge. Check floor loading, lifting points and the space needed for the liner and lid. If the container remains on a pallet, include the pallet height in the head-reach calculation. The filled load should not be carried by the fitment or the filling connection.

03

High-capacity supply and cleaning

A 1000 L fill can occupy a significant part of the cycle. The upstream sterilizer, buffer and product transfer must deliver the required flow for the whole fill without exceeding the product’s allowable holding time. Plan the CIP return, drain points and access around the head. If the line also fills 200 L drums, confirm the change parts, support and weighing range for both formats rather than assuming a multi-format model covers them.

PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Is an IBC liner the same as bag-in-bin?

They are closely related: both use a flexible liner inside a rigid bulk container. The difference is usually the container standard, liner construction, fitment and handling method. Define the actual container and liner drawing.

Which machine fills 1000 L IBC liners?

The published AF4 family covers 1000 L and 1500 L BIC/IBC liner sizes, in single or twin-head configurations. Confirm head reach, support and the exact liner fitment with the manufacturer.

Can the filler weigh a 1000 L container?

A weighing platform can be sized for the full load, but the platform, frame and floor must be designed for it. Confirm the tare, load-cell protection and the effect of the filling connection on the measurement.
