Flow-meter filling
A flow meter measures the product passing the meter and stops the fill after a set mass or volume. A Coriolis mass flow meter is listed with a ±0.3% reference accuracy. It needs a stable flow profile, a representative density if volume is used, and a defined stop sequence. Foam, entrained air, pulsation and a changing product recipe can affect the result.
Weighing filling
A weighing system measures the filled package and stops the fill at the target mass. It is listed with ±5 g resolution. It needs a stable platform, a defined tare and enough time for the product to settle. The bag or drum support must not load the scale with the filling connection. Vibration and product impact can affect the reading.
Which is better for viscous products?
For high-viscosity paste, the final filling phase and the valve response can dominate the error. Weighing is often easier to connect to the commercial fill target, while a flow meter may be suitable when the product and flow are stable. The only reliable comparison is a trial with the actual product, package and acceptance method.
Accuracy is not the same as acceptance
The meter or scale reference accuracy is a component specification. The finished-package result includes the product, package, support, filling sequence and sampling. Define the sample size, the tare method and the allowed tolerance before comparing proposals. Do not accept a catalogue accuracy figure as the line performance guarantee.

Frequently asked questions
Is a flow meter more accurate than weighing?
Not universally. A Coriolis meter has a high reference accuracy, but the installed result depends on the product and installation. Weighing measures the filled mass directly. Compare on your actual product and package.
Can a flow meter handle pulp or particles?
It depends on the meter type and the passage. Some meters are not suitable for large particles. Review the complete product path and test the actual product.
Which method is better for 200 L drums?
Weighing is often used for drums because it measures the filled mass directly. A flow meter can be suitable when the supply is stable. The platform, tare and filling connection must be designed correctly.
